i apologize for the lack of posting updates - it's just that there are none to post. I am still trying to find sponsorship/funding for the project. a large national non-profit lost a very large chunk of their capital in the Bernie Madoff mess, so they are spending time regrouping. such a shame.
if you are aware of a local Rochester group that would like to sponsor the project, please let me know in the comments. If no funding is in place within the next month, I may have to wait until next year to start the physical mapping. am i giving up? not at all. i just have other projects looming, and the work on this one has to be scheduled to fit within those time frames. And it's a lot more pleasant mapping in the summer than in the winter!

It has been an incredibly emotional week...finding my father's gravesite...reconnecting with family...and so much information to sift through. I hope to be able to find sponsorship for this project soon, so I can have a good bit of it done by the time snow comes again next year. I then plan to spend the winter cataloguing and getting the searchable database "live" over the winter. I may have to look to Kickstarter for funding of the startup costs, just to
get going on the project during good weather.

I was up til 1am mapping (as best as I could) the physical area to get a grid down. It looks like I'll have to wait until I visit on Monday, in order to get a real sense of dimension. I have the beginnings of an interactive site under construction, and designed an info sheet to fill out for each grave that I map. I've also decided that I will take a picture of each headstone to put with the map information. I am hoping this gets funded...at least phase 1. And funded quickly - I'd like to be able to get as much done as possible outside before next winter. My enthusiasm and strong conviction that this needs to get done has only increased as I've spoken with others who have "lost" graves they're looking for.
fingers crossed.
fingers crossed.
